The Hands of One Man, those of artist, Elton Braithwaite, seek to present the beauty of the Creator to His most exquisite creation, humankind. The wood sculpture, calling to his mallet and chisel, is already present in each piece of wood, each piece of deadfall, which finds it’s way to his workbench. His deep belief in the spirituality which guides his hands and his passion for this work to which he has been called, provide the courage, the focus and the determination needed to recognize, and then reveal the Spirit of the Wood. So, come, enter this world. Born in Jamaica in a country surviving the last vestiges of colonialism, Elton
Braithwaite immigrated to the United States as a young man. The qualities that underlie the creation of his art – passion, courage, focus and determination – are the same that underlie his life. Having the passion to dream, the courage to pursue the vision, the focus to establish and maintain priorities, and the determination to stay the course, even in the face of adversity, are qualities which Elton seeks to pass on to those fortunate enough to come within his circle.
